One of the characteristics of the ex-voto is the fact that it implies a certain freedom of action of the devotee: he/she “chooses” his/her saint and the payment method of the grace sought. The vow, which “shall be made with faith” for the request to be granted, also involves a direct relationship with the deity, to which one requests something in exchange for something, in a relation of interests that projects the utilitarian world of the individual into the supernatural world. The pieces that form part of the collection of ex-votos reveal the diversity of the symbols and materials with which they were made, such as wax, wood, clay, fabric.
