For one series, Cang Xin exchanged roles with several workers involved in wildly different industries. In this way, he utilizes photography to document his performance art, resulting in works that appear humorous and ironic. As two artists involved in performance, the Peking Opera singer and Cang Xin represent different modes of artistic practice (traditional and contemporary), but each share a common Chinese history. Cang Xin must confront this traditional motif of the Peking Opera performer in order to create a new, identity-based art.
