This is one of Chan's dreamlike fantasy paintings. Bright hues and colour patches are used to create surrealistic scenery and strange characters. The metaphorical Chinese red seals bearing the artist's personal marks at the bottom-left corner are elements deliberately added to simulate traditional Chinese painting. Yet because of the fantastic pictorial content, the work transcends the boundaries of traditional media. In terms of subject matter, Chan's works are inspired by everyday happenings, whether topical or personal: street scenes, the people he met, and even television programmes. They directly reflect his mind and daily life.
