Marie-Anne Pierrette Lavoisier perfected her art of drawing with the painter Jacques-Louis David. She is the author of the thirteen copper engravings, signed "Paulze Lavoisier Sculpsit", which illustrate the Traité élémentaire de chimie. She also drew two scenes taken on the spot in the laboratory. These are the experiments Lavoisier does on breathing, notably with Pierre-Simon de Laplace. In these two scenes, she's representing herself.
