Explaining the conditions to the receipt of KAIME ad

Special document Given that cash kaime bills will begin to be withdrawn from circulation as of the first Sunday of the month of July of the year seventy eight (13 July 1862), a special department has been set up for this purpose in the University building near Saint Sophia and the following decisions have been taken to carry out this task in an orderly manner and to facilitate the necessary procedure to be followed by the public. All those in possession of kaimes shall depose arrange them in stacks, each stack being made up of a thousand piastres and the above mentioned kaimes shall be arranged separately according to their denominations, that is of one hundred and fifty and twenty and ten-piastre kaimes, and old an new ten and twenty kaimes should not be mixed together and if there is more than one kind of kaime or old and new ten- and twenty-piastre kaimes together in any pack that pack will not be accepted and shall be returned to its owner to be rearranged in the manner described above to be presented anew. Given that special forms have been printed with a view to writing down the amount and value of cash, kaime owners shall mark the kind and amount of their kaime bills on these forms and sign them and will present the above mentioned kaime bills together with the forms, and if kaimes are presented without these forms they shall definitely not be accepted. Given that there are no new bills of less than five liras, in order to provide for the harmonisation of the accounts during the exchange, sums delivered in cash shall not be less than eight hundred thirty piastres and even for those which are more than eight hundred thirty piastres, the mentioned table on the reverse of the mentioned form shall be consulted so as to determine the necessary sum to be given to avoid making fractioned payments. The department in charge of kaime bill payments shall be open every day except Sunday from one to four o'clock and from five to nine o'clock and those coming to exchange their kaimes shall be received according to the order of their time of arrival and in case there is much affluency, number slips shall be distributed corresponding to the number of people with whom transactions can be made in one working day and these will be received according to the distributed number slips. There will be twenty cash offices in order to receive the bills and everyone shall present these kaimes together with the form to one of these cash offices and the amount mentioned shall then be counted and controlled in the presence of the owner and the controlled stacks shall then be stapled in the presence of the owner and these shall be accompanied by a promissory note detached from a stump and upon presentation of the mentioned promissory notes to the payment desks found at the far end of the same hall the kaimes presented shall be reimbursed in their totality in the form of coins and new bills. In order to maintain order, no one shall be allowed to present cash amounting to more than five hundred thousand piastres at a time at one cash office and those merchants and money changers carrying more than one million piastres in cash shall previously inform the administration of this state of affairs whereupon the mentioned administration shall determine a place and a date and a time for them to be received and the necessary procedure shall be undertaken for the sum in question. Given that the circulation of kaimes will be prohibited as of next September in accordance with the recently issued decree, starting from the twenty sixth day of the month of August (7 September 1862) the necessary instructions have been given to the Imperial Treasury not to deliver kaimes to creditors. All those who have been admitted to the above mentioned department are in the obligation of acting in accordance with the warnings and reminders of the assigned personnel charged with the maintenance of security and order required by the reception and payment transactions according to the valid legislation.13 Muharram of the year 1279 (11 July 1862)
