The “shotfirer” was a real profession and it had its tools: fuse, detonator and the inevitable small trumpet that was blown to warn about the imminent explosion. It was the man of the “drilling and blasting” who blew up the advancing frontal line of the mining activity. All of this began at the end of the 16th century and became habitual and effective only in the 19th century.
