The post-World War II economic boom created large-scale investment in industrial infrastructure in Australia, and the government was keen to showcase this aspect of Australia’s development to the world. Dupain’s images capture the technical capabilities of Australian industry, and at the same time, reveal his own artistic interest in the machine-form. Dupain was a true modernist, exploring in his work the impact of technology, industry and the machine on society.
