F-4 "Phantom"

The twin-jet McDonnell F-4 Phantom was one of the most versatile fighters ever built. First flown in May of 1958, the F-4 entered service in 1961, becoming the Navy's "fastest, highest flying, and longest range fighter" (Boeing.com).
The F-4 saw combat in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm, serving with the United States and 11 other air forces from around the world. Over 5,000 F-4s had been produced by the end of production in 1985.
