Death Valley National Park, National Park Service

Death Valley National Park, National Park Service
Death Valley, CA, United States

Hilton lived in the Mojave desert where he ran a gem shop. While Hilton exhibited his desert landscapes in New York and throughout the state of California, he also regularly exhibited at the Death Valley 49ers show. Hilton incorporated encaustic painting techniques – the use of wax mediums along with oil – to successfully render the unique desert light. This painting depicts one of Death Valley’s sand dune formations.
