Women's Shoes in Slot Hosiery

Slit weaving with a multi-coloured floral motif forms the interesting exterior of this shoe. The toecap and side parts are cut of a single piece with a heel seam. The relatively wide cut is set with a silk ribbon laid in small folds, a gold coloured metal braid runs through its middle and is tied in a small bow in the centre of the instep. The medium height recessed heel is covered in black silk satin. This new heel shape rendered shoes especially elegant and was developed in 1854 by French shoe manufacturer François Pinet (1817-1897), who cast his heels from gutta-percha and covered them with leather or cloth. This shoe is entirely lined in a diamond-shaped, top-stitched silk lining and has a silk taffeta insole, suggesting its use as an elegant slipper.
