This fabric is used in traditional clothing worn by women in northern Laos. White, yellow, green, red, beige, blue, and pink silk threads are used to form weft-backed structures in a Jacquard weave and are designed in a symmetrical pattern consisting of geometric patterns, hooked wave patterns, and phoenix patterns, forming circular stacked layers of diamonds and triangular patterns. An ikat pattern weave in several stripes lends additional decorative style. The entire sarong is covered in traditional decorative patterns, clearly demonstrating refined flair and craftsmanship.
