Sculptor Harry H. Gordon uses primarily wood and granite for his monumental sculptures. Gordon has acknowledged that wood has a natural gesture and that when he begins working with a piece of wood, he rotates it until he finds a position where it begins to work as sculpture. The Michener Art Museum’s 1988 Inaugural Exhibition included Harry Gordon’s Face, which the sculptor carved from a solid timber of New Jersey red oak.
