"A year ago, I sat with my artist father and showed him my watercolors of collaged faces for a series entitled “See of Humanity.” The paintings are representations of a variety of people in one composition. I knew Dad would appreciate the use of the painting medium, and his response to the abstracted subject matter was expected. “Nice work, but why?” Seeing the compilation of faces of different skin tones and eye color baffled him. He was seeing realism, but not in a predictable format. This led to a beautiful discussion between generations concluding that all people are precious and equal simply because they are human. I handed Dad a reference photo of his grandson’s mouth and snapped a pic. “Face Lift” was born. The watercolor of my 90-year-old father holding a torn photo of my son Luke has become a precious memory of a moment. The realism of the painted torn edges of the photo emphasizes the bringing together grandfather and grandson in a format that defies pandemic barriers." -Eva Crawford
