It was a small group of onubenses intellectuals who believe in first museum under the title of Provincial Museum of Fine Arts, incorporated in the State in 1922, which had about founding proceeds almost entirely from private except for a small batch of masters of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries deposited by the then Museum of Modern Art in Madrid. With the Civil War, much of these works were returned to their owners, those from the state stored at the Institute of Secondary Education La Rabida, until the constitution of the current museum.
