False Head of a Mummy Bundle

Like the Egyptians, the Inca believed in conservation of corpses. In some cases, the Intestines and flesh were removed from the bones or the corpses were dried to preserve them (as it was the case with the mummies of the Inca Kings). Another method was the natural conservation of the mummy by stuffing the organs into mummy bundles made out of cloth. They often set those bundles in a huddled or crouching position. Those bundles were sometimes equipped with a false head, as shown in this picture.
