"Tilting" or "parasol" fan of wood, mother of pearl, silk-covered paper and black lace; turned, lacquered wooden handle in undulating baluster shape with round knob at base; gold metallic sliding band with raised Egyptian motifs at top of handle; lacquered wooden guard sticks; round mother of pearl rivet; sticks pivot and join together with gold metal filigree clasp to create circular fan; accordion-pleated leaf of black silk over paper; two inch wide band of black machine lace at outer edge; flounce of matching lace at center; can be held vertically as fan or used tilted as parasol.
