This graceful tray was used for displaying incense burners or other implements of incense-scenting. It has a design featuring autumn flowers: bellflowers, awns, chrysanthemums, bush clover and others. They are depicted in gold and silver taka maki-e (high-relief sprinkled metal decoration) over the gold nashiji (pear skin pattern) lacquer finish.
