The white lace fan-sheet is spread by sixteen mother-of-pearl slats decorated with broché carving. The base of the sewn lace is small-stitched tulle, decorated with baroque-style arches and sculpturesque flowers.
An aristocratic lady possessed several fans. This type of precious, adorned one was used at festivities and balls. Queen Elisabeth often hid behind fans in public places, to keep the myth of her beauty alive. This particular fan was also one of her gifts to her Hungarian lady-in-waiting, Mária Kornis.
