Designed by the architects Del Debbio, Foschini and Morpurgo in 1937 as the future "Casa Littoria", in 1940 the building was allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Construction work on the building was interrupted during the war and resumed in 1956. In 1959, the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters was inaugurated, and the offices were transferred here. The current Palazzo della Farnesina is the result of a very complex architectural project.
