Hand-coloured engraving showing women's fashions. Two women and a small boy in an interior looking at baby clothes. The boy wears a black cap, cloak and frock with white pantalettes and high buttoned gaiters. The standing woman in a brown day dress with a cutaway jacket and blue waistcoat front to the bodice holds up a baby's cap. Beside them is a woman in a green skirt and black jacket with a baby's jacket in her lap. In the background a nun in an elaborate headdress can be seen through a doorway with a lambrequin and curtain. Also in the background, a piano with candle-sconces, an artist's canvas (turned around) on an easel, a large framed picture on the wall, a table with scissors and spools of thread. In the foreground is a child's ball.
