About Creator: Juazeiro do Norte, in Ceará, is one of the main centers of popular Catholic devotion in the country, the land where Father Cícero Romão Batista lived and died and which today houses the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows, visited annually by thousands of pilgrims and tourists. Juazeiro is also an important hub for craft production, a vocation linked to the city's history and the work of Father Cícero. The wood is brought in from other regions, usually from Pernambuco, and is used to make not only household items, but also representations of saints and the priest in carvings, oratories and images.
