Fela meets with the head of his record label, DECCA Records, to collect his earnings. The label head is played by Justin Ezirim who is also one of the choreographers for the production. 'The Fela's Republic & The Kalakuta Queens' musical chronicles Fela's birth, activism and his non-traditional family. It explores the life of the legend Fela Kuti, and the women that were an integral part of his band. A unique insight into the inner walls of Fela's Kalakuta Republic reveals the women and their unique fashion, dance and African identities. They were a source of strength and inspirational support to Fela. They endured intimidation and torture from the police and the general public due to their involvement with Fela. 'Fela's Republic & the Kalakuta Queens' is a never been told historical piece depicting the defiance of a legend and the lives of his women. This musical was produced and directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters and is one of the biggest musicals to come out of Africa.
