Female phallus statuette

Museu Nacional

Museu Nacional
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This object of the Amazon Collection of the Archeology Sector synthesizes in the same representation of a human figure the feminine and masculine principles, an aspect that by its recurrence seems to have had particular relevance in Marajoara cosmology. It presents the trunk and the lower limbs decorated with corporal painting in geometric motifs, in red color on white background, with two small lateral handles and a recess in the neck for mooring and suspension.
