The piece most likely depicts Jadwiga Petrażycka-Tomicka (1863-1931), a famous social activist who fought for equal rights for women.
The bas-relief portrait was discovered by Professor Langman in 1945 while cleaning the basements of the Hospice of St. Stanislaus in Rome which were used as an air-raid shelter during World War II.
