The festive costume of Kifissia consists of a sleeveless cotton chemise, the “foundi”, with multicoloured embroidery on the hem, sometimes extending as far up as the knees. Clasping the upper torso is the “tzakos me ta katomanika” (a tight-fitting bodice with sewn-on lower sleeves), and round the waist is a red belt. Next comes the “yourda”, the sleeveless coat with embroidery in dark wool. The hair is parted in the middle into two plaits, with silver ornaments (the “masour’ plexides”) hanging from them. Suspended from the shoulders are rows of chains with imitation coins. Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation Collection
