A short cylinder shaped red hat with a black tassel attatched to the top. This object was purchased by Paul Marsh at Port Said, Egypt, at the age of 12-13 on his voyage from the UK to Australia in 1959 on the "Sratheden". Local vendors in boats crowded around the ship, and passengers sent money down to them on ropes.
This object represents part of the Marsh's family's migration experience from the UK to Australia. It is also an example of what was being selled to tourists in Egypt at this time, showing how the Egyptians wanted to represent themselves to the remainder of the world.
