This print depicts the Fuji-jeda station on the Hoeido Tōkaidō, which was the first series on the Tōkaidō produced by Hiroshige between 1831 and 1834, after traveling along the Tōkaidō as part of an official mission for the shogun to deliver a gift of horses to the Emperor.
The series, consisting of 55 prints, was published in oban yoko-e format and is the artist's best-known work, despite the fact that he produced many other series on similar themes. These prints have undoubtedly become the most famous Japanese ukiyo-e prints in history. Their fame has not been limited to Japan but has also spread throughout the West.
