The Chuck E. Cheese chain of video arcades and restaurants has been a bellwether of moving play from outside to indoor/electronic playgrounds and play spaces. But while play on the home console and PC are often private, the arcade or family fun center is still a public (or a sort of public that requires payment) play space. Chuck E. Cheese helped transform the arcade from a dark and shadowy place parents worried about to a place that welcomed families.
