Dilbert is the title character of a comic strip created by Scott Adams in 1989. The comic strip presents a satirical look at white-collar workers in an office of a large high-tech company that is micromanaged by the Pointy-Haired Boss (PHB). Dilbert is a geeky, MIT-educated electrical engineer, and he has considerable expertise in technology. He is less expert in dealing with humans, especially of the female sort. His many disasterous dates provide some of the comic strip's best humor. The comic strip is popular primarily because readers relate to Dilbert's trials and tribulations in the Kafka-like setting of an office where the corporate bureaucracy carries on for its own sake, employees' efforts and talents go unrewarded, and busy work is valued above all else. Dilbert's popularity has led to the production of several books, an animated TV series, a computer game, and scores of Dilbert-themed consumer products. United Features Syndicate, Inc., distributes the comic strip to more than 2,000 newspapers in 65 countries and 25 different languages.
