The cartoon characters created by Walt Disney in the 1920s and 1930s have given American culture some of the most recognizable icons of mass media. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and others entered the American consciousness when Disney's short animated films began appearing at the Saturday afternoon matinee at the local theater. Nearly 100 years later, the popularity of Mickey and his many friends has hardly diminished. The bendable features of Disney characters made in the 1960s suggest the continued popularity of these beloved characters.
