“I see an added value in glass, which for me is not a material serving as an end in itself but a means making it possible to enhance and transform other materials and forms too.” (PELLEGRINI, 2010, p. 4) Angelo Rinaldi chose to work with glass in particular at the very beginning of his sculptural career due to its peculiar characteristics. Hard and yet fragile, it retains the enchantment of the millennial magic whereby a handful of sand is transmuted into a substance of pure transparency. The artist’s work went through an abstract and experimental phase during which he perfected his handling of glass before developing a personal poetic vocabulary made up of figurative details. The crystal disc exhibited here is marked with mysterious incisions, archaic graphic elements and stylized human figures as though in an undeciphered script of times and places yet to be revealed.
