Yamantaka Vajrabhairava is known as the Conqueror of Yama, Lord of Death, and belongs to both archetype and protector groups of Buddhist dieties especially important in the Geluk Order. He is also a terrific form of Bodhisattva of Wisdom, Majushri, and symbolizes the victory of Wisdom over Death, the latter of which is associated with ignorance. The vivid blue pigment, gilt decoration, and flames in his headdress are meant to inspire awe and wonder in the devotee.
