The painting is an individual figure study for Krøyer's Hip, Hip, Hurrah! Artists' Party, Skagen (1888). The scene for Krøyer's painting was the enclosed front garden of Anchers Hus – the home of the Ancher family. The idea for a painting came to Krøyer following a lunch in the Ancher family's front garden in 1884. Several of Krøyer's studies for Hip, Hip, Hurrah! Artists' Party, Skagen can be seen in Anchers Hus. The sitter here is Helene Christensen, who was a friend of Anna Ancher since childhood.
