Lu Dongbin, whose name is Yan, and pseudonym is Dongbin, the Taoist name Chun Yang Zi, was the ancestor of the Quanzhen faction of Taoist. According to Taoist legend, he was originally a Confucian scholar who was a charitable person and won the respect of the people by helping those in need. After his success and being immortal, he was honored as the Sword Ancestor Sword Immortal and was listed among the eight immortals during a gathering at Mount Stalagmite in the Immortal Garden. According to Feng Guanghong's research, Lv Dongbin is a real person in history, and is mentioned in "The History of the Song Dynasty" and many other Northern Song documents. According to the tomb records found in recent years, it is estimated that he was born in the Yuanhe reign of the Tang Dynasty (circa 819), and interacted with Li Houzhu, Chen Tuan, Ding Wei, Zhang Zi, Wang Anshi and others. He is credited with systematically establishing the theory of "Nei Dan" Nourishing, and became the common ancestor of both south and north schools of Taoism.
