Figurine of monk Hanshan and Shide Front

At the period of Xianzong Tang Dynasty(C.E.806-821),there have two monks in the temple of "Mount Hanyan of Maple Bridge" at Suzhou Zhejiang, one's name is Han Shan, the other one's name is Shi De. Han Shan alias Han Shanzi, it is said that he is a poem monk who "flunk in imperial examination, not comply with convention, like the men who are Chu Kuang(unruly man), Chang Ju and Jie Ni(all recluse)" at the period of Zhenguan Tang Dynasty, afterward, he lived be a hermit in Mount Tiantai Hanyan. Shi De is an orphan, found and adopted by an old monk of Guoqing Temple who is Feng Yu when he passes by Mount Tiantai, so named him Shi De(means picked). The two monks are both born with poetic talent, adored each other, and then be friends. Thus the Mount Tiantai and the Guoqing Temple had become the home of them, where have their figures on which there have words to describe that "Han Shan, one hand stroking knee, smiling, barefoot. Shi De, one hand lifting pearl, one hand holding book, also barefoot, laughing." Earthling use the harmony of the two men to imply "He He", get the means "harmonious", "cherishing the value of harmony", expressed the spirit that people look forward to sincerity and friendship, they were called "two celestial beings He He" by later genarations. There had the "Han Shanzi Anthology" which collected by later generations bequeathed.
