Stylized Kilia type figurine carved from
yellowish white marble. The body is
flat, the neck oval and slender and the
comparatively large head is elongated
on each side, flattened, and tapers to a
triangle towards the neck. The lower part
of the face is deeper, becoming flatter
towards the top of the head. The lower
part of the back of the head is concave.
Eyes and ears are indicated by small
raised circles. The nose is narrow and
long. The mouth is not indicated. The
rounded shape of the shoulders and upper
arms gives the upper part of the body a
semicircular appearance. The arms are
bent, with the forearms held on either side
of the chest. The hands are not indicated.
A triangle of fine incised lines at hip level
indicates the pubic area. The tapering
legs are divided by an incised line and the
feet are broken. Since the first figurines of
this type were found at the cove of Kilya
in Çanakkale they are known as Kilia
type figurines. They were recognized
as the cult objects dating from the Late
Chalcolithic to the beginning of the Early
Bronze Age and were originally produced
at Kulaksızlar atelier site for marble
working in Manisa. (see Joukowsky 1982,
pp. 87-94; Seeher 1992, pp. 153-170; Dinç
1997, s. 255-282; Takaoğlu 2002, pp. 71-93;
Akdeniz 2010, pp. 65-83).
