Final statement of Abraham Hill, an African American private in the 10th Cavalry. The 10th Cavalry was one of the first all black regiments sent to the American West to protect settlers. These all black regiments serving in the West were known as Buffalo Soldiers. Voucher states that Hill was enlisted 12 September 1867 in Wilmington, Delaware, to serve for five years. Reports that Hill is owed $64.62 for his service. Docketed by C. R. Ward, 2nd Lieutenant of the 10th Cavalry. Ward states that he forwarded the final statement to J. J. Fisher, possibly employed at the office of the paymaster. Attached to a pay voucher for Hill, signed by Fisher. Reports that Hill received money he was owed by J. W. Nicholls, Paymaster of the United States Army. Both documents are partially printed.
