The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot was the first theatrical production since the closure of the music hall in the 1880s. The production was directed by Deborah Warner and starred Fiona Shaw in a one woman perforamnce for 45 minutes in the unheated audotrium in December and January. The structure was still dangerous and the audience had to be accompanied into the hall, which was lit by a single light bulb.
