The 1979 TPS-L2 was the first Walkman. The portable cassette player is only slightly larger than the cassette itself. The Walkman was as an important status symbol and an emblem of a new way of life among young people in the 1980s. By 2010, Sony sold around 335 million devices under the brand name "Walkman." After over 30 years, production was discontinued in 2010.
