Rapid Response Restitution respects and upholds the restitution of major historical and ritual artefacts from Nigeria. However, rather than focus exclusively on iconic art objects, it searches to understand how earlier designs, often pre-colonial in terms of their original invention and use, could be repurposed in the 21st century. For this, one needs to ascertain what is currently held in collections in Nigeria, both public and private. In parallel, it can be valuable to investigate ongoing industries that continue to produce functional items for local use based on original or hybridised designs, ranging from fishing and hunting equipment to architectural elements.
