On a beach, on a hilly slope, a fisherman's family plays happily together. A man holds up a large fish that he has caught. On the other side, a mother holds her child, who is teasing a dog with leftover pieces of fish. The tides of life are welcomed with joy. The sounds of life are received joyously; playing at fishing. Whatever the results will be is another matter. This painting is the opposite of the events described in the novel The Old Man and the Sea,written by Nobel laureate Ernest Hemingway, who narrated the suffering of a fisherman. The painting Fisherman II takes the same setting and the scene resembling the one in Kelakai Waru (Dry Leaf Tree, 1981). (Agus Dermawan T.)
