The architecture painted in a lifelike way on the staircase’s ceiling creates the appearance of an earthly space ascending into the heavenly dimension. Here we encounter vibrant figures from the ancient world representing the five senses. Hermes (Roman Mercury) with a trumpet (ancient tube) and two young men with a horn and viola (according to M. Kokole) symbolise hearing, a woman with a censer, Hestia (Roman Vesta), the goddess of fire and angels, smelling the scent and holding fragrant flowers, symbolise the senses of hearing and smell, both parables of air.
