The bottom of this silver chalice has engraving of a shoot with a large lotus-like flower. Under the rim there is an ornament with a winding stem. The handle has the appearance of a horned dragon protome with a scaly neck.
Tableware of precious metals in the Golden Horde culture were ginen as a reward and marked social status. Koumiss, wine and other alcoholic drinks were drunk from such dishes during various ceremonies and banquets. It was also used in funeral rituals by placing it in graves next to the dead.
The cup was brought into the museum by prominent Ukrainian patrons Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko. It originate from the Kaniv district (the central part of Ukraine).
