This painting comes from the School of Sisters (Colegio de las Vírgenes) in Zaragoza. The religious subject shows the Holy Family pausing on their journey as they flee to Egypt. This is an everyday scene brimming with detail. Saint Joseph and the Boy Jesus are playing with tree branches, while the Virgin collects water. The painter was considered an excellent copyist and depicts the characters with good taste and sensitivity.
