Flower Pot

This is a flower pot used for potting and growing a flowering plant or a tree with roots. When flowers bloomed, the pot could be moved to a desirable spot to be enjoyed from nearby. Small pots were displayed to match the furniture indoors. Alongside the potted plant, the pot itself was an object of appreciation. Most pots were made of earthenware or porcelain, and some were carved from stone. Depending on the plants potted, some pots were deep and others shallow. Its shape varied between a circle as the most popular shape, a square, a hexagon, or an octagon. The bottom of pots had adequately-sized holes to allow water to flow out. The cylindrical stone pot shown here is supported by three legs and elaborately carved from its bottom edge. Patterns of mountains, flowers, and trees were engraved within the four squares carved on the body, while the base has one hole to let out water.
