 山本梅逸(1783-1856)は、江戸後期の名古屋の南画家。中林竹洞などと古画の研究を行い、のち京都に出て画業の研鑽を積んだ。華麗な彩色花鳥画を得意としていたが、本作もその一つ。四季の草花が色とりどりに咲き誇る、蝶や蜻蛉など虫たちが飛びたつ、あるいは羽を広げ留まっているなど、幻想の世界を色彩豊かに描く。
