Volodymyr Yosypovych Patyk was born in the village of Chorny Ostriv, Zhydachiv district, Lviv region. Studied at an art and industrial school. In 1953, he graduated from the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (now the Lviv National Academy of Arts). The teachers were: R. Selskyi, M. Fedyuk, Y. Bokshai.
