Adorning the Admiral Byrd exhibit is a 1/8th scale model of the Floyd Bennett Ford Tri-Motor that Admiral Byrd and his crew flew across the South Pole in November 1929. Designed and built by Museum volunteers, this model is constructed of corrugated aluminum, has a wingspan of ten feet, and took an estimated 4,000 hours to complete. The detail and historical accuracy is a testament to the hard work of the Museum’s model shop.
