Melancholy of birds B, by Ali Cherri, is based on an assembly of animals and plants forming a coherent whole and constitutes a reimagining of the imagery of 19th century herbariums. The practice of collage, grafting, and hybridization for which the artist is known is the result of a restrained reading of our world, wavering between science and poetry.
Of the three lithographs, the central section depicts a bird on a background of flowers. It disappears into a wash of blue and viewers will only be able to make out its contours through very close observation.
