Taken against a backdrop of painted furniture reminiscent of late 19th and early 20th century photography, probably in Chambi's studio in Cuzco, this photograph depicts a group of four native-born folk musicians playing respectively a small ukulele-like stringed instrument (possibly a charango or chillador, typical Andean instruments), a mandolin, a harp with a sound box (called an andina or also ayacuchana, from the city of Ayacucho) and a violin. The first three wear Western-style suits and leather shoes, while the last is dressed more simply, with only one sandal. It is not clear whether this is a regular group or if the street musicians associated for the photography.
